Elmstead Energy Assessment & Building Services are a group of experienced Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Consultants having worked on a variety of project types and sizes, both domestic and commercial. We are located in Colchester, close to the Essex-Suffolk border and only about an hour outside of London.
We are registered Chartered Engineers (CEng) and full members of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (MCIBSE), demonstrating that our skill is recognised within the industry. We are also experts in the sustainability of buildings, as we are registered Low Carbon Consultants and Low Carbon Energy Assessors.
Our dedicated team of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers can design all of the mechanical, electrical, and renewable services within your building. Our in-house sustainability experts can produce the required energy certifications such as Part L compliance reports, EPCs and overheating studies. And our CAD team can ensure that drawings and designs are presented clearly and professionally.
We can work collaboratively with clients and all other members of the design team to help produce beautiful, energy efficient buildings, that meet the client’s requirements and are within the specified budget.
Our Services
We offer a full range of Building Services Design options:
Outline Design for Planning
We can produce outline design drawings and design intent reports to assist with planning applications.
We can also carry out initial energy assessments of the proposed designs to produce Energy Statements or full London Plan Energy Assessments that your local Planning Authority will require.
If the proposed project has existing utilities to consider we can also conduct existing utility services inspections and reports.
Performance Duties / Performance Specification
We are happy to work on the performance duties / performance specification of a building design up to the stage that it can be tendered on by Main / Sub Contractors.
We can produce outline performance mechanical and electrical services drawings and a performance specification which states the objectives that the full design needs to comply with.
We can also be retained as checking engineers on the project to assess the Main / Sub Contractors final detailed design and ensure that it meets the client’s requirements that were outlined within the performance specification.
Full Detailed Design Drawings and Specification
We can be appointed to carry out the full detailed design drawings and specification on a project, from initial design through to completion and handover.
This will include detailed elements of the design that you would not normally have under a performance duty arrangement such as calculated pipe and cable sizes, heating and cooling load calculations to allow for accurate main plant selection, and the checking of the contractor’s installation throughout the construction phase.
Post Construction / In-Use Assessments
We can carry out surveys and assessments of the mechanical and electrical services installed within buildings, either immediately post construction or after they have been in use for a while, to determine if they have been adequately designed to meet the occupants needs.
Where there are any issues, we will suggest the most cost effective and sensible ways of rectifying the problems.
